Celeste Fibre Optic: How Fibre Optics and Hosting Solutions Optimise Your Performance and Costs

Welcome, and hello everyone. Today, we’re gathering to answer a fairly straightforward question: how do fibre optics and hosting solutions help optimise your performance and costs? My name is Claude Petrucci, I’m the head of PI Services, and I’ll let Gauthier introduce himself.

Hello, I’m Aldebert Gauthier, Pre-sales Engineer at Céleste.

Thanks, Gauthier. What we can already say is that we’re on the same Céleste network, as I’m using Céleste fibre. It’s not a simple topic, and we’ve tried to present in just over 30 minutes the Céleste offering in partnership with PI Services. The goal is to explore how productivity can be improved and how fibre and hosting can boost your business. We’ll also touch on the phasing out of the copper network, which is accelerating the rollout of fibre optics. We’ll do our best to cover everything in just 35 minutes—which is quite a feat!

The session will be divided into two parts. The first will be a short overview to introduce PI Services, our consulting company. In the second part, we’ll hand over to our partner Céleste to present the key ways in which fibre can benefit SMEs and micro-businesses in their day-to-day operations—helping them meet market demands and adapt to ongoing changes, especially after the post-COVID acceleration in communication technologies and service expectations.

PI Services—I'll try to be brief, or I’ll take up the full 30 minutes! We’re an engineering consultancy firm with three main areas of expertise today to support our clients. The first is upstream consulting—understanding client needs, identifying how we can help, and which tools are relevant for evolving their systems. The second is integration and deployment, which involves all our technical know-how in deploying, setting up, and securing systems. The third is support and managed services—we’ll dive into that in more detail in this presentation—which involves helping clients maintain the operational integrity of their deployed infrastructure. That includes servers, infrastructure, workstations, networks, and security.

A quick example: if a client wants to upgrade their infrastructure and choose a fibre provider, we begin by analysing their current and future needs. Once the requirements are defined, we propose architecture scenarios to determine the best solution. Then we deploy the infrastructure, transfer skills, and once it’s up and running, the managed services team takes over for day-to-day operations based on agreed criteria.

Focusing on managed services: once infrastructure is in place, the challenge becomes how to maintain it, improve it, and meet daily technical demands. This includes three service types: full operational maintenance of all infrastructure components (network, servers, workstations); technical support contracts with our expert teams (e.g., Fortinet or Sophos for security); and on-demand support for one-off incidents requiring diagnosis and assistance.

Once we’ve defined the scope—be it the Céleste fibre, the server infrastructure (which may also be hosted by Céleste)—we take on the full operational maintenance.

I’ll stop here, although I could talk much more about PI Services. I’ll now hand over to Gauthier to present Céleste. And just a side note: there’s a chat window on the right—feel free to ask questions. We’ll address them at the end of the session, and if anything’s left unanswered, we’ll follow up by email. Our contact details will be shared at the end.

Gauthier, over to you.

Thanks, Claude. Let’s dive into the Céleste presentation.

Céleste is a telecom and infrastructure provider founded in 2001, dedicated primarily to businesses and resellers. Today, we have over 570 employees and generate €73 million in revenue. We operate two certified data centres in France—which we’ll cover shortly—and over 10,000 kilometres of fibre network across the country. We offer additional services, but today we’ll focus on our core expertise: connectivity and hosting.

Céleste operates from 7 agencies across France, as shown on the map, and has more than 234 Points of Presence (PoPs). These PoPs—whether data centres or shelters—contain Céleste infrastructure that connects businesses to the Céleste network.

We also have a presence in Switzerland through our integration with the VTX Group nearly two years ago, allowing us to provide telecom services there as well.

Regarding our certified data centres: Fil d’Ariane in Albi and Marilyn in Champs-sur-Marne, which is currently being certified. Fibre optic—what is it? Physically, it’s no thicker than a hair. Unlike copper, it’s immune to electromagnetic interference and unaffected by distance, unlike ADSL or similar technologies. With fibre, you get a symmetrical and guaranteed speed.

However, network performance depends on the engineering behind the fibre. Céleste offers dedicated fibre, known as FTTO (Fibre to the Office). As seen on screen, this type of fibre connects a business directly to the provider’s infrastructure. It’s not shared—this is a dedicated connection that can deliver speeds up to 10 Gbps, or even more. FTTO also includes a 4-hour recovery time guarantee during business hours, with optional 24/7 extensions. This is the professional solution for businesses seeking maximum uptime.

We also offer FTTE and FTTH services, which are based on shared network architecture. These connect companies via a shared optical local loop, meaning bandwidth is not guaranteed or symmetrical, and performance may vary depending on network load. Nevertheless, they’re suitable for replacing copper ADSL solutions when high availability isn’t a top priority.

How does fibre optimise performance and costs? Fibre lets you scale bandwidth as your needs evolve and consolidate services (e.g. telephony and data) on a single line. Another example: rather than investing in underutilised local storage bays, fibre allows off-site data backups and storage, saving money and improving digital service flexibility.

In terms of security: Céleste PoPs are hosted in secured data centres or facilities with redundant power (e.g., generators supporting 4-hour outages). This ensures stability and scalability.

Claude, would you like to add something?

Yes—our nearby PoP in Noisy-le-Grand is in a secured location and exempt from planned power cuts.

Exactly. Fibre offers a secure, future-ready solution ensuring business continuity. Now, why choose Céleste and PI Services for your connectivity needs? You get two experts—Céleste for telecom infrastructure, and PI Services for your entire information system—working hand in hand.

Let’s move on to hosting infrastructure in Céleste data centres. Hosting involves providing secure environments—access control, cooling, power—and complying with standards like ISO 27001. Your infrastructure is hosted, connected via Céleste’s fibre network, and made available across France.

Our certified data centres include Fil d’Ariane (Albi), Armand (Nantes), and Marilyn (Champs-sur-Marne, pending certification). All are designed for energy efficiency (measured in PUE), using techniques like free-cooling.

Why host in a data centre? You get 24/7 monitoring, access control, reliable power and cooling, and cost optimisation. Instead of investing in on-premise infrastructure with equivalent availability, use our certified environments and focus on your core business while we handle operations.

Thanks, Gauthier. Regarding ISO 27001, as you mentioned, we’ve also initiated this certification process at PI Services to align with rising client expectations and reinforce the end-to-end security and process chain.

Exactly.

Thanks again. We’ll take a few minutes for questions from the chat. Let’s look at a couple now.

One question about shared fibre: aside from cost, what’s the main difference from dedicated fibre?

The key differences are in bandwidth symmetry, guarantees, and recovery time. FTTH, for example, doesn’t offer symmetrical or guaranteed speed. The shared local loop includes both businesses and consumers, so no guaranteed bandwidth or recovery time. It can still be useful for low-criticality sites, but we usually recommend a backup (e.g. 4G) to compensate.

Thanks. Another question—if I subscribe to Céleste fibre and reach your data centre, but my partner is on a SaaS application hosted elsewhere, is interconnection possible?

If the partner is hosted in another data centre?

Yes—for instance, if the backup service you mentioned is hosted elsewhere, can you interconnect?

Absolutely. Since Céleste has a presence in various data centres across France, we can usually provide connectivity. And for SaaS vendors or major cloud providers, we offer direct cloud connect solutions for secure private links between your network and the service provider, even across countries.

What about backup services? Does Céleste provide them?

Yes—we offer Veeam Cloud Connect services for backup of both virtual and physical environments.

I’ll just add that we’ve worked with Céleste on backup solutions, and we have common partners for this. It’s another example of our end-to-end service model—from client site to destination infrastructure.

If there's a failure at one of your data centres, is there redundancy to another site?

That depends on how the client’s infrastructure is designed. Without a proper disaster recovery or business continuity plan, the system won’t restart automatically elsewhere. The other data centre may be functional, but it depends entirely on your architecture.

Right. During our preliminary audits, we address these issues—continuity and recovery plans—and can build dual or even triple architecture if needed. It’s a matter of assessing needs upfront.

That wraps up the main points. We’ve introduced PI Services and Céleste, demonstrated our ability to deliver high availability, security, and interconnectivity with partners. Thanks to everyone who joined the session. The video will be available in the private PI Services space if you want to watch it again. If you have further questions, you’ll find our contact information at the end. Feel free to reach out—Gauthier, myself, or our teams will get back to you.

Thanks again, and see you soon.
